If you’re considering switching online stock brokers TradeKing may be worth a look. Last month TradeKing announced that they will refund any transfer fees charged by your current broker up to $150. Here’s a closer look at how TradeKing stacks up:
· $4.95 trades (market or limit orders)
· $0.65 option contracts (market or limit orders)
· No minimum opening balance (unless you trade on margin, in which case the required minimum is $2,000)
· No inactivity fees
· Their free trading tools received a top ranking of 4-stars from Barrons.
· TradeKing’s customer service includes free phone support, live online chat with brokers, and email access. Their customer service was top rated by both Kiplinger’s and Smart Money.
· $50 Friend Referral Program
TradeKing’s price of $4.95 per trade is considerably less than all of their competitors - with the exception of Zecco ($4.50 per trade). TradeKing distinguishes themselves from Zecco through their customer service and more advanced trading tools. If you’re looking for cheaper online trades, but don’t want to sacrifice trading tools or good customer service, they may be worth a look. I’ve been using TradeKing for a little over a year now and I have to say that I’m very happy with them. My main focus is the cheap online trades, however, they do provide an awful lot of quality trading tools as well.

I echo Randy’s comments. I’ve been using TradeKing for a couple months now. I’m very happy with them. Prior to TradeKing I used Scottrade, however I didn’t see any value they offered above TradeKing that merited paying over $2 more per trade.

I just switched about a week ago to TradeKing after 5 years with ETrade. Why? I’m saving money on the trading costs and the tools are pretty good. ETrade was okay and I don’t bash them but when I really needed to reach them on the phone, I got really frustrated and then wanted to place the trade and they wanted to charge me an extra fee for doing it over the phone. So far, so good TradeKing.

Glad to hear they’re working out for you, Jim. Thanks for the feedback on both TradeKing and E-Trade!

Schwab Visa has 2% refund that rolls into your account for investing. This might work out for those who don’t trade often but charge lots on their card each month (and pay it off).
